About imondi

Hand-crafted by 103 completely wood-obsessed carpenters

imondi was founded in Shanghai in 1999, around the same time the Backstreet Boys released ‘I want it that way’. It was a great year. Since then we have grown into Asia's largest manufacturer of reclaimed wood flooring, working with wood rescued from old boats and barns to the wooden poles in the Venetian canals.

Reclaimed wood flooring: common questions

Reclaimed, recycled or salvaged wood: is there a difference?

Not really. It depends where you are. In America it's reclaimed wood or barnwood, in Britain reclaimed timber, and in Australia and New Zealand recycled timber. We mean wood that has already had one life: beams from old barns and factories, boards from old houses, teak from boats, oak poles from the Venice lagoon. Most of it is over 100 years old, and every piece is kiln-dried before we cut it.

Solid or engineered reclaimed flooring?

Solid boards are reclaimed wood all the way through. Engineered boards have a reclaimed wood top layer bonded to a stable plywood core, so they move less with changes in humidity. We make both, prefinished or unfinished.

Can reclaimed wood flooring go over underfloor heating?

Yes. Our engineered boards are suitable for underfloor heating (radiant floor heating in the US). See our underfloor heating guide for installation advice. Underfloor heating guide

Which formats and finishes do you make?

Planks and wide planks (wide boards), herringbone, chevron and parquet, plus reclaimed wood wall cladding (wall panelling, or paneling in the US). Surface finishes include hand-scraped, wire-brushed, smoked and distressed, oiled or lacquered, prefinished or unfinished. Each board keeps the patina, nail holes and saw marks that give reclaimed wood its character.

Do you supply hotels, commercial projects and importers?

Yes. We supply hotels, restaurants, retail brands, developers, contractors, architects, interior designers, importers and distributors in more than 30 countries, from Cheval Blanc in the Maldives to the Edition on Lake Como.

How much does reclaimed wood flooring cost, and can I get samples?

Prices depend on the wood, format and finish, and we quote per square metre (m²) or per square foot (sq ft). We send samples worldwide. Typical lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from order confirmation. Email info@imondi.com with your project, the area and the look you have in mind.
